As part of its 25th anniversary celebration, the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy has teamed up with to produce a new guidebook; The Trails of M-22.

The full-color, 192-page book focuses 40 of the most beautiful paths that are accessed from what many consider Michigan’s most beautiful highway.  The 116-mile state highway, that wraps around Michigan’s little pinky like a glove,  passes through the heart of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the state’s most popular national park, and serves as the gateway to more than two-dozen preserves protected by the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy in Manistee and Benzie Counties and the Leelanau Conservancy in Leelanau County.

The Trails of M-22 was written by Jim DuFresne, one of the best known outdoor writers in the Midwest and author of more than 20 books including Isle Royale National Park: Foot Trails & Water Routes and 50 Hikes in Michigan.  Along with outstanding photography, the guidebook features more than 40 trail maps with larger, more detailed versions available from ( and can be downloaded to smart phones and tablets or as PDF files to be printed later.
